C’est le coureur Allemand Marcel Kittel du team Giant Shimano qui remporte la 2ème étape du Tour d’Italie. Au terme des 219 km, de Belfast à Belfast, il devance au sprint Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ.fr) et Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Factory)
Pourtant, dès le km 5, 4 hommes réussissent à s’échapper on trouve Fedi (Nori Sottoli – Yellow Fluo), Tjallingii (Belkin), Armée (Lotto-Belisol) et Romero (Colombia). Ils vont compter jusqu’à 6 min d’avance qui laisse filer.
Mais dans les 50 dernier km, l’écart semble fondre sous l’impulsion des Giant Shimano. A seulement 13 km de l’arrivée, ils ne possèdent plus que 1 min d’avance. Ca roule vite très vite. A 7km de l’arrivée, voyant le peloton arrivé, Maarten Tjallingii part seul mais il sera rejoint à 3 km de l’arrivée après 216 km d’échappée.
On se dirige vers un sprint massif du peloton, c’est la FDJ.fr qui mène le rythme mais au final c’est Marcel Kittel (Giant Shimano) qui l’emporte facilement devant Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ.fr) et Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Factory).
