C’est le Colombien Fernando Gaviria, 20 ans, (Equipe nationale de Colombie) qui remporte la 1ère étape du Tour de San Luis (UCI 2.1) en Argentine. Au terme des 186, entre San Luis et Villa Mercdes, il devance Mark Canvedish (Etixx Pharma QuickStep) et Sacha Modolo (Lampre Merida).
Une étape qui fut animée par une longue échappée de 3 hommes avec Leandro Messineo (San Luis Somos Todos), Ignacio Pérez (Team San Juan) et David Williams (Jamis-Hagens Berman). Mais le trio fut rattrapé à 15 km du finish. Il y eut bien de nombreuse tentatives de certains courageux mais le sprint massif du peloton était inévitable.
Fernando remporte la 1ère étape en dominant le sprint dans les 100 derniers mètres et le enfile le maillot de leader devant Marck Cavendish. Le 1er Français est Yohann Gene (Europcar) . Armindo Fonseca (Bretagne Séché Environnement) prend la 10ème place.
